Fiction and Vocabulary Exit Tickets
Eight original fictional excerpt/task pairs offer brief practice inferring a word meaning from context and explaining how a clue supports that meaning. Each ticket is a narrow sample of one word in one passage, not a broad vocabulary or reading assessment.
All files are free. No email address, account, payment, trial or subscription is required.

- About 8 minutes.
- Teaching time
- About 32 minutes. Planning estimate of eight four-minute tickets if the full set is used; each ticket is intended for about four minutes and has not been classroom-timed.

Support and adaptation
- For learners who benefit from reduced reading load, reveal one sentence at a time, reread the excerpt aloud or use available text-to-speech, and let learners mark the target word and a possible clue. Allow dictation or an established communication method. Do not remove the contextual clues or supply the target definition before the response.
Extension
- Invite learners to write a new sentence that uses the target word with the same meaning, then identify the new clue that would help a reader infer it. Treat this as a separate practice opportunity, not part of the exit-ticket score.
