Unit Rates and Fair Comparisons

Browse free resources

Teach a bounded journey from equivalent ratios to per-one meaning and fair rate comparisons. C05 combines the existing RR02 v0.1.7 kit with two new v1.0.0 kits, RR03 and RR04.

Every file is free. No account, email address, payment or learning platform is required.

Where to start

  1. RR02: Equivalent Ratios — When quantity order, labeled equivalent groups or shared scaling needs first teaching. RR02 retains content v0.1.7: its PDF and Word files are unchanged, and its HTML has the recorded response-line markup and small-screen reflow repair.
  2. Find and Interpret “Per One” — When the learner can work with labeled ratios and needs to interpret a requested unit rate.
  3. Compare Unit Rates on the Same Basis — When per-one meaning is secure and the next need is comparison on the same units and direction, including ties and missing information.

Use each kit’s separate readiness file before showing its model. These are local routing conversations, not placement scores. Teachers can enter at the relevant lesson; this collection is a supplement, not a complete ratios course.

Complete classroom package

Download C05 v1.0.0 classroom ZIP — RR02 content v0.1.7 (unchanged PDF/Word; repaired HTML response-line markup and small-screen reflow) and RR03/RR04 v1.0.0 student and teacher PDF, editable Word and HTML files, plus the collection Start Here, glossary and local decision record. The package supports offline use.

The ZIP contains classroom files. Individual files are available through the three kit pages above; the whole ZIP is optional.

Respond, then look again

RR03 and RR04 supply four next moves—continue, clarify, reteach and extend—with actual student tasks, teacher guidance and complete keys. Separate unused rechecks, later revisits and transfer tasks support looking again. Keep teacher keys and future stimuli back until use; an exposed task is practice. Changed contexts are not validated equivalent assessment forms.

Fit, sources and review

A bounded U.S. Grade 6 mathematics supplement, not a full ratios course. Local grade fit depends on the prerequisites below. Name both quantities in a ratio in the intended order, make equivalent labeled pairs by scaling both quantities, divide whole numbers, and read a simple fraction as division. RR02 supplies ratio-language and equivalent-group work.

Interpret per one, preserve direction and units, compare on the same basis, explain ties and missing information, and apply a stated constant rate. No percent, measurement conversion, coordinate graphing, complex fractions or complete proportionality course. See the official Grade 6 ratios and proportional relationships standards for the bounded reference.

AI-authored and independently AI-reviewed within the recorded version and scope. Classroom effectiveness and timing have not been established. Brief responses support a tentative teaching move; they are not diagnostic scores, stable ability rankings or validated equivalent test forms. RR02 keeps its existing mathematics review record; its nine HTML variants have a separate format review; the two new kits and their shared collection files have separate recorded reviews.

Teachers may print, use and adapt these original materials for their teaching. Retain Mentor Teaching attribution and identify local changes. Numerical data and examples are constructed, not classroom observations.
