Respond to a Counterargument
In this estimated 40-minute lesson, learners respond to a counterargument by representing it accurately, acknowledging why it matters, and offering a related reason, practical change, qualification, or limit. Learners may support or oppose either position. Score fair representation and reasoning, not ideological agreement.

- Pencil or another way to mark and draft a response.

Support and adaptation
- Read or chunk each speaker’s turn. Use separate marks for the claim, concern, and alternative. Invite the learner to rehearse orally or use the frame, while asking whether the speaker would recognize the concern.
Extension
- Draft two defensible replies that take different positions or use different plans. Compare which concern each addresses and what each leaves unresolved.
