Practical session 3: Support a design choice with trials

Mentor Teaching · Teacher directions · 15 October 2026

Plan and prerequisites

36–44 minutes. Planning estimate; adjust to the class.

Read temperature changes and identify comparable conditions. Use the bridge if entering directly.

Print in this order

1. Prerequisite bridge, model and guided practice

2. Independent check

Give each independent or new-evidence file only at the stage described below. Keep answers with the teacher.

Teach and demonstrate

Use the model to compare complete sleeve designs across all supplied matched trials. Show a bounded claim and a useful limit. Guide Check every trial without naming the independent task’s design choice.

Learner work and evidence

Give Choose from new results after guided practice. Collect trial-by-trial comparisons and an appropriately limited choice, including a mixed or uncertain result when warranted.

Next decision and continuation

Use Compare the measurements for reading errors. Use all results and limit the claim addresses cherry-picking or always claims; give its fresh recheck only after teaching. Retain Later assessment.

Matching complete teacher key

Teacher guide pages 1–5; follow-up keys on pages 6–7 and later key on page 8.

Access and interpretation

Offer oral, dictated, pointing or labelled responses when they show the same intended reasoning. Keep each task’s quantities, conditions and sources available. Allow extra response paper. A supplied-data explanation does not establish actual construction or testing.
