Talk About a Familiar Story

Question, Detail and Connection at Home

Use the lesson story Sharing the Score. Your child should already have used this story in class. Ask the teacher for the lesson pages if needed.

  • Read together in a way that is comfortable. You may talk in the language you usually use together.
  • Ask: What question were you answering?
  • Ask: Which detail helped, and how did it help?
  • Try a true but unrelated detail, such as the card colour. Ask why it gives less help with that question.
  • Let your child point, speak or write. A short conversation is enough; pause if it becomes frustrating.

You do not need to mark a score or choose a teaching group. If useful, tell the teacher what your child could explain and whether you read together. Keep later classroom checks for use with the teacher.
