At the end of pottery club on Tuesday, Nico pushed his clay tools into a basket and headed for the door. “The tables look clear enough,” he said when Dara pointed to dried clay under his place. He kept walking. Dara stayed to wipe the spot.
On Thursday, Nico reached for a cutting wire. The wire in the basket was tangled around two other tools, and a handle was coated in hard clay. He spent the first part of the meeting cleaning it. Before leaving, he looked at the basket, then set his used tools beside the sink. He washed each one and returned the cutting wire to its own hook. The club room was closing earlier that day, so he missed the first few minutes of his usual walk with Dara.
The next Tuesday, the room stayed open until its usual time. Nico finished his bowl before the others. He started toward the door, then turned back to his table. He scraped the clay crumbs into the waste container and wiped the surface. When Dara reached for a cloth, he said, “I've done this place. Is there another spot I left?”
His bowl had cracked while drying, and he would need to make a new one. Nico left the cracked bowl on the shelf, checked the cutting-wire hook, and joined Dara by the door. The story ends before the club's next meeting.

Explain how the character changes across this story. Include one accurate early word or action and at least one accurate later word or action. Explain what the comparison suggests about the character's choices or actions, distinguish that change from a change in circumstances, and state one reasonable limit on what the story establishes. Quote or paraphrase precisely. Use only the story; a permanent trait or a private motive needs evidence the story may not provide.
