A Place for the Quiet Story

At the first meeting of the storytelling club, Samir spread his list across the table. “We need adventures,” he said. “A story about someone's ordinary afternoon won't hold anyone's attention.” When Bea began describing how her grandfather taught her to mend a pocket, Samir tapped the next name on the list. Bea stopped speaking.
The club planned to record three stories for an afternoon listening event. Two days later, Bea brought the coat with the mended pocket. While another speaker searched for a missing page, she showed her tiny uneven stitches. “He let me take them out and try again,” she said. Samir put down his list. He asked what her grandfather had said when she wanted to stop. Bea told him, and he wrote the words in the margin.
On Thursday, the club had room for only two recordings. Samir still wanted to include the story of a canoe trip. He also moved Bea's name above one of his suggested adventures. “Tell the part where you decide to try the stitches again,” he said. “I interrupted before we reached that part.” He asked Bea to read her whole draft while he listened without tapping the list.
The event was moved from a classroom to the smaller music room. Samir crossed out one long introduction to save time, but he left Bea's recording on the plan. Before the club finished, he asked the next speaker, “Which moment matters most to you?” He did not remove every adventure from his list.
Explain your evidence
G6R02-C1
Explain how the character changes across this story. Include one accurate early word or action and at least one accurate later word or action. Explain what the comparison suggests about the character's choices or actions, distinguish that change from a change in circumstances, and state one reasonable limit on what the story establishes. Quote or paraphrase precisely. Use only the story; a permanent trait or a private motive needs evidence the story may not provide.
