Central Ideas and Summaries: Follow-Up Check

The Sound-Cue Rehearsal

This passage describes an invented setting and events.

At the invented Willow Theatre, a group rehearsed a short play with recorded sounds. At first, the sound helper used a list of scene numbers to decide when to start each sound. A scene could last longer or shorter on different days, and some sounds began before the actors were ready. The helper changed the list so that each sound followed a particular spoken line or action. During the next rehearsal, the door sound followed the actor’s knock and the bell followed the last line of a conversation. Those sounds now fitted the actors’ timing even when the scenes ran longer. One sound followed a whispered line that the helper could not hear, so that cue still needed changing. The group kept the clearer cues and chose a visible action for the difficult one.

Read or listen to the whole passage. You may look back at it. Work before discussing answers. Use your own wording; exact words from a title or a useful term are fine. A short accurate answer is better than adding a claim the passage does not support.
